Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano for sale

Sounds like a mouthful to us Anglo Saxons but ‘599 GTB Fiorano’ makes a lot of sense to our Italian cousins. The easy part is 599. This is the size of the engine minus the last 9cc. GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta which gives us a clue to the body styling i.e. it’s a Coupe. And finally Fiorano is the handy little ribbon of tarmac just outside of Maranello which is great for pushing Enzo’s finest to their limits. Maranello must be a great place to live! The 599 has a lot to live up to though. Built as a replacement for the 575 Maranello it had to look good and from an engineering point of view it had to move the game on. Well Pininfarina did the styling under the capable hands of Frank Stephenson who’s cv includes having a hand in the New Mini, X5, F430, Maser Quattroporte, 612 Scaglietti and pretty little new Fiat 500. He then went on to Alfa to replace our friend Wolfgang Egger who then went on to Audi. There must be something in the wine in Northern Italy to produce such an abundant crop of styling gurus! Is the 599 beautiful? Not in a pretty way perhaps but in a dramatic way it succeeds. It certainly looks like a Ferrari. And the mechanical bits? If speed is the benchmark (and it invariably is) then a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds recorded by Evo Magazine suggests that the boys with the spanners and computers at Maranello have been putting in some overtime. Some tests have recorded even closer to 3 seconds for the same sprint which places the 599 way near the top of the league for high-performance exotics. Want to buy one? Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione For Sale

Wolfgang Egger. He’s the one to blame. It’s his fault for designing a car you would want to live in after selling your house. Your partner would understand and the kids of course. Especially if it was a red one. They look so damn good in that colour. Why is it that Ferrari and Alfa have a particular affinity with the fiery hue? Mind you, the 8C can also be painted black or yellow and it still looks totally brilliant! The problem is that only 500 of these stunners will be leaving Modena and they are getting snapped-up like chicken drumsticks in a pool of crocodiles. Allocations have been made on a country-by-country basis and here in the UK we understand that no more than 41 examples will be available. For the record this car can scorch to 60 mph in 4 seconds and where allowed (i.e. nowhere except a racetrack) will max out at 180 mph. This is all down to a modifed version of Maserati’s V8 producing 450 galloping stallions of pulling power (GSPP) matched to a lightning-fast pair of paddle-shift controls located behind the steering-wheel. Oh and it’s made of carbon-fibre. Nice one Wolfgang! By the way, this gentleman is now head of design at Audi. 2002 BMW 330Ci Convertible

Spring is in the air and that normally means the rush to buy a cool convertible gets underway. This 2002 BMW 330Ci Automatic looks stunning in Schwartz Black with its ‘Individual’ cream nappa leather interior and walnut trim detailing. Maserati Masterpiece 2

The first Gran Turismo to be photgraphed by ourselves was parked up in a London Street near Madame Tussauds. As we approached the Maserati the first thing we noticed was the crowd of tourists holding their camera phones at arm’s length to capture yet another souvenir of their trip to London. Yes, the new Gran Turismo seems to have that lustful effect on most passers-by and it certainly worked its charm on us too. Pinin Farina deservedly gets the credit for conjuring the ingredients. More specifically it was the work of a gentleman by the name of Jason Castriota who pencilled the Ferrari 599 GTB, Maserati Birdcage, Ferrari 612 Kappa and the very special Ferrari P4/5. He is obviously very good at drawing cars! The latest Gran Turismo had to be good though since the original version from Maserati (also designed by Pinin Farina) was the first road-going car to come out of the factory in 1947. JC has done a great job. From the menacing snout, the inflated forearms of the front wings, the slightly pinched waistline and the raised posterior and neatly finished tail it is impossible to find a side of the car that is not photogenic. The interior works just as well. Typical Maserati - classy, a little understated, minimal gimmickry, comfortable driving position and biggest surprise of all is the amount of space in the rear cabin. 2002 BMW 530i Sport ‘Individual’

This totally gorgeous BMW 530i Sport certainly looks the part with its ‘Individual’ metallic Moro Red paintwork and Champagne Leather Interior. There’s something about the E39 5-series shape that defies the ageing process and even today still seems as fresh as when it was first launched in the mid-90’s. However, really nice low-mileage examples are getting tougher to find so this 2002 example with its fully-loaded specification and special paint finish is worth a gander at. A Rover to Range

We love Range Rovers. We love their ‘don’t mess with me’ looks. We love the way they drive. We love the way they ride. We love the fact that they have been around nearly four decades. If ever there was a motoring icon cake in the making the RR has all of the ingredients. Arguably it set the benchmark for all SUV’s that followed it. Just like the icons represented by the Mini, the Beetle and the 911, the Rangie has got timeless style and desirability by the bucketload. In fact, in our own humble opinion of course, there is no other vehicle on this planet that offers so much all-round capability. It still comes top of the class for off-road use - the competition struggles where the RR is king. It has the prestige of a Bentley. In Supercharged form it behaves like a sports car. It can carry five in comfort with their suitcases on a long-haul trip to the Alps. It just goes on and on and on.

1988 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL

Was this the best S-Class ever? Well if the ruling classes were setting the benchmark in the 80’s then the answer is a definite ‘yes’. Dignitaries and high-ranking politicians the world-over chose the W126 as their mode of transport by default. Sitting in the back seat it is easy to see why. Even today the way the car simply glides over the road suggests it is riding on a cushion of air. This particular 1988 SEL which is being sold on behalf of the owner has had a mint spent on it since 2004. The interior has had a complete re-fit with its re-upholstered seats, fresh carpets and interior trim. Externally the car benefits from good quality paintwork, new trim and refurbished wheels - all told a whopping £18,000 has been spent over the last few years which says something for the enthusiasm and commitment of the previous owners.
